meet mae
Hi there! Iβm Amanda. You may know me by my art name, Mae Wolf. I am a current Art Therapy and Marriage & Family Therapy Graduate Student at Dominican. Iβve chosen to pursue this path because Iβm passionate about the endless ways which creativity empowers relationships, sparks personal growth and facilitates emotional healing.
Iβve been a professional artist for over 10 years. I have exhibited my paintings, created large scale murals, and led groups through community art projects. My art practice is my greatest ally, my safe space, and my favorite tool for integrating the many layered experiences of life.
My teaching style synthesizes technical skill building with relational exploration. Iβve developed fluency with many mediums including oil and acrylic, murals, illustration and more. I love teaching people to effectively render their visions and daydreams. I am equally passionate about using art to explore the soma, the psyche, and the unconscious.
An art practice is a lifelong gift which nurtures the heart, a discipline which sharpens the mind, and an ally which can carry you through profound internal transformation. Through my teaching and creative mentorship, it is my mission to offer the tools I have gathered through out my career in a way which uplifts, inspires, and stretches my students into new realms of self awareness, creative joy, and personal empowerment.
Please note: Though I am a current Art Therapy student, I am not a licensed Art Therapist and this is not Art Therapy

art as inner compass
Art is more than βmaking prettyβ β it is a way of listening.
When we create, we enter into a conversation between the medium, the spark of inspiration (the muse), and our deepest inner most selves.
The creative process helps us to slow down long enough to notice what is present, illuminate what has been hidden, and imagine what is possible.
As we move through life, we continually tesselate between external and internal realities. Your infinite internal landscape is made up of your emotions, thoughts, memories, personal symbolism, and more. Art itself is the bridge.
Art transforms feelings into form, and experience into meaning. In this way, it is a compass which guides us towards greater self knowledge, authenticity, and a deeper, more congruent connection with ourselves and the world around us.
Exploring the Soma through Art
I am passionate about inviting the body into the art-making process.
Art is the bridge between the imaginative realms and the embodied experience. Through out the learning process, I incorporate frequent somatic art practices which help to anchor the body into the present moment. In my research, Iβve learned the seemingly infinite applications of art practices towards regulating the nervous system, engaging the senses in a healthy way, and connecting the body and mind.
As we create, we practice slowing down. Tools like body mapping, bilateral drawing, and other creative art-based somatic practices are used through out in order to create an accurate and congruent reflection of the bodies felt sense. By giving form to that which we cannot express with words, we can move towards greater integration and wholeness.
exploring metaphor through art
βThe Alchemistβ 18Γ24β Oil on Panel
Exploring and engaging in a dialogue with personal symbols and metaphors is one of the most transformative aspects of the creative process.
Metaphors often emerge naturally through art-making. Whether you begin with a clear vision, a meaningful theme, a creative impulse, or a simple blank canvas and a willingness to discover what arises, the process becomes an ongoing conversation between the conscious and unconscious mind.
As these metaphors take form, they can offer unexpected insights into the inner world. By approaching these symbolic expressions with curiosity and reflection, we can find deeper layers of personal meaning and hidden wisdom.
As a teacher, my role is not to direct the journey. I am simply a guide. The practices I offer are invitations for you to explore your own creativity and imagination. My technical training and artistic experience is there to support you in developing the skills, confidence, and artistic foundation needed to bring your visions to life.
MY TEACHING STYLE
My approach to teaching is more than just technical instruction
(though I have quite a bit of insight to offer there as well).
I can help you to hone in on artistic techniques such as composition, color theory, brush and mixing techniques, planning and creative-skill building. Though my recent work focuses on magical realism, I have experience with a variety of styles including abstract expression, portraiture, landscapes, and more. If you have a specific vision, letβs bring it to life. If you arenβt sure what style you want to achieve, I can help you to discover that.
Beyond technical art instruction, I always create an open invitation to engage with the deeper dimensions of the creative process. Depending on your interests, we may incorporate mindfulness, self-reflection, active imagination, relational exploration, and embodied awareness. This aspect is totally optional. I am happy to keep things simply in the realm of technical instruction if that is your interest.
EXPERIENCE + QUALIFICATIONS
My various professional experiences in leadership positions have given me the ability to confidently lead people of all ages through art processes that are developmentally appropriate.
I have experience working and volunteering with children, leading groups, curating art galleries, public speaking, managing teams and doing arts based education.
In addition, I am currently learning about how art interplays with developmental psychology in my Art Therapy Graduate program. Please note that I am not yet a licensed Art Therapist, as I am a current student.
